Branding and renovation project

The small local family business known as “Tsogas family tavern”, that has been in Achillio since 1961, has been renamed and rebranded into “Hamak”. The name is inspired by the geographical location Hamako or Hamak, the settlement established by the ancestors of today’s residents of Achillion, and the place of birth for the family’s ancestor Constantinos Tsogas.

The new brand design incorporates the abstract silhouette of the old windmill ruins, something which creates an interesting contrast with the serif type and echoes the design principles that have been applied for the dining area decoration.

The renovated summer restaurant space expands below the existing metal structure, at the promenade of Achillio bay. We have applied a contemporary classic style, always respecting our philosophy of sustainable design. The dominant elements are the vintage dining tables, that have been refurbished using contemporary hand-painting techniques.

The colour palette applied to the exterior dining area and the main building façade is a complementary scheme of ocean blue and raw sienna, accompanied by white and neutral tones. The timber floor, coloured in light sea blue, incorporates the setting into its surroundings and gives one the feeling of the cool summer breeze.

The white timber structures installed on the perimeter are actual second-hand window frames, extracted from recently renovated houses.

We have created layers of light by placing architectural lighting that flatters the wrought iron structure and pendant lights made of rope or driftwood above the dining tables. The driftwood have been collected at the nearby beaches and the rope shades are hand-woven.

The drinks and cocktails area has been furnished with 100% upcycled and reused pieces; ‘80’s wrought iron chairs and pieces previously used in the restaurant, cut and transformed. Sun-powered light garlands decorate the baby olive trees that delimit the space.
